First a bit about the band,
this project was started by Kei (S. Kianka) in late 2008.
The goal is to make meaningful music with minimal
instrumentation and vocals. Desolation is about abstraction, art, and noise.
Tracklist:
1. The Light is Gone....
2. Wandering
3. Fields of Despair
4. Losing Faith
5. Sadness
"The Light is Gone" is the opening of the demo and how the name says as soon as the music begins the light disappears and You're left in pure darkness surrounded only by rain and thunder.
After this pretty minimalistic and cold song "Wandering" takes us to a little journey through peaceful mother nature. The journey goes on a in "Fields of Despair" but not for long the mood changes as fast as the
weather. That's an interesting part of this demo because Kei is using different nature recordings or sounds to combine them with raw and minimalistic guitar playing. And with this kind of approach he
creates a very interesting and kinda soft but deep atmosphere.
"Losing Faith" predicts the end of our inner self and humanity in general and also shows us that when we're gone nature will still live on. This would be a good finishing word, but one more song is waiting to show us that people are able to make beautiful things but the fact that we choose to do wrong will lead us into destruction.
Now, what's left to say? The demo is about 30 minutes long and it's definitely representing its name "Shinigami" which is an entity in Japanese folklore that is responsible for seeing that a person dies at their appointed time and then guiding their spirit to be judged in the afterlife. Kei exactly knows when it's time to give some heaviness and loudness into his songs and also when it's good to have some calm and peaceful sections.
So, if You like music that gives You a deeper experience
this would be a nice choice (of course if You're able to understand it).
